Caprock Cafe is a great cafe just behind Walgreen's on 34th Street and Indiana Avenue. They are best known for their huge hamburgers and their cold draft beer. In fact, Caprock cafe has been voted "Best Place to Have a Beer" by Lubbock Avalanche Journal's "Best of Lubbock".I love hamburgers and I really love Caprock's hamburgers but I have also tried their Mexican food and the chicken fried steak. One thing is definite when you go to Caprock Cafe to eat and that is you will not leave hungry. The portions are more than generous and the food is great. The Mexican food is more Tex-Mex than it is Mexican food but I like Tex-Mex. The chicken fried steak is not the best I have had in Lubbock, but it is very big and it is really good. I had fries with it and they were delicious.
I took my wife and kid with me the last time we ate and we had an appetizer of chips and Queso, which were great. My wife had an enchilada plate, my son had a child's chicken strip dinner, and I had the chicken fried steak. We all had sodas too and, as usual, they are huge. In addition to my wife's enchiladas she received more chips and salsa(the salsa was the only thing in the meal I did not care for). All of this, and I mean it was a huge amount of food, cost exactly $39(tax included) which is decent in my book.
Caprock Cafe has a great atmosphere but if you do not like cigarette smoke you will not like it. We were seated in the no smoking area but we had to walk through the smoker's section to get to it and you could still smell the cigarette smoke in the no smoking section. At least we didn't have smoke blowing on us though. I would like to make note of the fact that the Caprock Cafe on Slide is smoke free and smoking is allowed at the 34th Street site only after 2 PM. The music was fantastic. I could have stayed a lot longer listening to the great music.
Overall, Caprock Cafe is one of my favorite places to eat. If you love hamburgers, you will absolutely love Caprock Cafe. If you like lots of food, you will love it even more.
